God has a specific purpose for our lives

James 1:22-25 (ESV)

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

An old mountaineer and his wife who were sitting in front of the fireplace one evening just whiling away the time. After a long silence, the wife said: "Jed, I think it's raining. Get up and to outside and see." The old mountaineer continued to gaze into the fire for a second, sighed, then said, "Aw, Ma, why don't we just call in the dog and see if he's wet."

Sometimes we are lazy! One thing that should really been on our hearts is doing more doing and less talking about doing! God wants us to be doers not talkers.

God has a specific purpose for our lives at such a time as this. Let's start giving Him our all.

Dear Lord, help us to be focused on doing the things that You want us to do instead of just talking about doing them. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

A lesson from a wet Golden Retriever

Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

As I let Max our Golden Retriever in the house after enjoying his play time in the rain produced by Tropical Storm Colin it reminded me of a story I read a while back.

An old mountaineer and his wife were sitting in front of the fireplace one evening just whiling away the time. After a long silence, the wife said: "Jed, I think it's raining. Go outside and check, will ya?"

The old mountaineer continued to gaze into the fire for a second, sighed, then said, "Aw Ma, why don't we just call in the dog and see if he's wet."

We have a tendency to get lazy sometimes, don't we?

John Wesley traveled 250,000 miles on horseback, averaging twenty miles a day for forty years. He preached 4,000 sermons, produced 400 books, and learned ten languages. At age eighty-three, he was annoyed that he could not write more than fifteen hours a day without hurting his eyes. At age eighty-six, he felt ashamed he could not preach more than twice a day. He complained in his diary that there was an increasing tendency to lie in bed until 5:30 in the morning.

Let's get up and do something for God today! There's so much work to be done!!

Dear Lord, we pray today that we would not be lazy. Help us to get up and do great things for You today. In the Name of Jesus, Amen. 

Will You be Found Busy or Lazy?

God never goes to the lazy or the idle when He needs men for His service. When God wants a worker He calls a worker. When He has work to be done, He goes to those already at work. When God wants a good servant, He calls a busy man. Scripture and history attest this truth.

Moses was busy with his flocks at Horeb.
Gideon was busy threshing wheat by the wine press.
Saul was busy searching for his father's lost beasts.
Elisha was busy plowing with twelve yoke of oxen.
David was busy caring for his father's sheep.
Nehemiah was busy bearing the king's wine-cup.
Amos was busy following the flock.
Peter and Andrew were busy casting a net into the sea.
James and John were busy mending their nets.
Matthew was busy collecting customs.
William Carey was busy mending and making shoes.

I know I want to be working so I am ready for what God has for me to do. Sometimes it is easier to sit around and do nothing but as we read the list above it is a great motivator to get busy.

He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.

Dear Lord we pray that we will strive to be busy and not lazy. We want to be ready for what you have for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen
