Hand grenade and emotions

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Let’s think about our negative emotions like a grenade. You can either pull the pin and have your emotions explode all over the place, destroying you and all of those around you, or you can hand these emotional grenades over to God and let Him defuse how you’re feeling.

When you let emotions take over your life—like anger, jealousy, bitterness, sadness, even passion—they can lead you straight to sin.

Don’t get confused. Emotions aren’t sinful. But when strong feelings lead us to do things that we know aren’t right, that’s when they’ve crossed the line and have made us act in a sinful way.

When we give our negative emotions to God, He replaces anger with love, jealousy with gratitude, hurt with peace, sadness with joy, bitterness with forgiveness, and anxiety with self-control.

Make the choice to let God help you keep your emotions in check. Tell God how you feel and ask Him to change your heart so you don’t sin by doing or saying something you’ll regret later.

Don’t pull the pin. Hand your emotions over to God and let Him take care of you.

Dear Lord, help us to give our emotions over to You. Help us to not try and handle them on our own. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
