1 Corinthians 2:2 (ESV)
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ
and him crucified.
When the Apostle Paul went to the great and intellectual
city of Corinth, he said, “I determined not to know anything among you except
Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2).
Paul was a very learned and educated man. He was on par
with the happenings around him and hence was very qualified to debate with the
people of Corinth. Yet, he decided to put aside all worldly knowledge and
tactics and know nothing except what’s really important – Jesus Christ and Him
crucified! Why?
1 Corinthians 2:5 – “that your faith should not be in the
wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
The Cross of Christ tells us a story – a love story. A
powerful love story, so powerful that it has transformed millions of lives all
over the world! And still continues to
do so.
To the people of Corinth, the preaching of the cross was
foolishness. For us, the cross is the power of God and the wisdom of God. In
fact, the answer to all the world’s problems can be found at the foot of the
cross.
It is on the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus, that all our
needs whether in our body, soul, mind, emotions, as well as all our material
and financial needs, are met by God.
We, each of us, are burdened with our own special need, but
to receive God’s solution we must all make our way to the same place – the
cross of Jesus.
Dear Lord, we ask You for the grace to fast, pray, praise
God and to spend time with You. Help us to work on our heart. Open our
spiritual eyes so we will see what God wants us to see. In the Name of Jesus,
Amen.
