John 3:16 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
I can’t believe it has been forty-five years! So many
things have happened since March 9, 1969. Life has not always been the easiest,
but the decision I made that day has influenced the rest of my life.
March 9, 1969—I was seven years old and attending Strathmore Judson Baptist
Church in Detroit Michigan. During the opening for Sunday school the leader
asked if any of us wanted to know how to become a member of God’s family to
meet with one of the teachers. I decided I wanted to ask forgiveness of my sins
that morning so I went to the teacher. Her name was Mrs. Rose and she showed me
how I could be forgiven and become a child of God. She led me in a prayer admitting
I was a sinner, believing that Jesus died for my sins, that He arose from the
dead, and that I was committing the rest of my life to Him. After we prayed she
gave me a tract explaining what it meant to be a child of God. On the last page
was a place to put my name and date that I became a child of God. After Mrs.
Rose filled my name and date she signed it. I carry that tract in my Bible to
this very day reminding me of the commitment I made so many years ago.
Many years after I made that great decision I had a youth
worker share with me a way to make John 3:16 personal. In my Bible John 3:16 says.
For
God so loved RON that he gave his one and only Son, that If RON believes in him
RON shall not perish but have eternal life. Then next to it I have the Date
March 9, 1969 next to it.
Do you know that God is the author of your very
existence? That He fashioned and formed you in His mind and then knit you
together as a little baby in your mother’s womb? The Word says that you were
skillfully brought into existence by God Himself. God wants you to be His child
today.
If you haven’t come to a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ why not take that step today? He
is waiting with open arms. If you have question please contact me through the blog and I will be happy to help you find the personal relationship that God is waiting to have with you.
Dear Lord, We thank You for loving us so much that You
went to the cross for each of us. Thank You for Your love and for saving us. In
Jesus’ Name, Amen.
