Lesson from an old robin nest

Psalm 84:3 (ESV)
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
    my King and my God.

Recently I was going through some of my old treasures and came across an old Robin’s nest I had saved from my Christian Service Brigade days. Now many years later this old nest was falling apart. But back when the Robin built it was a real piece of architecture. Each piece of twig and grass were carefully woven to make a home for the baby birds.

God has called us to build our relationship with Him and nurture it to maturity.

Just as the birds intertwined twigs, leaves, grasses and roots to weave their nest, so Christians must build a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We must nurture this relationship, feeding it with God’s Word, developing it through prayer, and promoting it with Christian fellowship, church attendance and, Bible studies.

I am thankful for the beauty of nature that has unfolded before my very eyes throughout my life and the lessons I could learn from them. I am thankful, also, for the privilege to build and nurture my own personal relationship with God. I pray this Christmas season that you will take the time to nourish and grow your faith.  Then you like the baby robins of the nest you can leave the nest and soar to great spiritual heights.

Dear Lord, thank You for the lessons we can learn in nature. Help us build our relationship with You so that our faith will grow and bring others to You. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
