1 Corinthians 12:14-18 (ESV)
14 For the body does not consist of one member but of
many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to
the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the
ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that
would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an
eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where
would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the
body, each one of them, as he chose.
Some of us like to lead. We like to be the ones to teach.
We like to be the ones to lay down the law and believe we were born for it.
The fact is that no one is born to lead. You may have
heard it said that leaders aren’t born; they’re made -- through many trials and
testing, through much time and lots of experience. That is probably why Paul
specifies that some will be pastors…etc.
Think of it this way. Picture a body, but maimed -- no
arms or legs. With a neck … and several heads. Ewww. Not a pretty picture, is
it? But that is what the body of believers would look like if we all tried to
be the head. We couldn’t move forward – no legs! Couldn’t lend a helping hand -
no hands!
We each have an equally important part in the body. Let’s
seek the Lord about what exactly is ours.
Dear Lord, help us each remember that we are all a part
of the whole body. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
