Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
It was mid-January, and the coldest January in recent
memory. The car was relatively new and well cared for, so imagine the shock and
frustration when the man went to go out one frosty morning and it wouldn't
start. The Motor League was called, and, after an hour's wait, their truck
arrived, and the car was up and running. The operator suggested what he thought
to be the problem, and the car was taken immediately to the service station for
what he said would remedy it.
Now the concern was for the appointment that he had with the
doctor the next day. As he went to bed that night, he prayed, "God, You
know how important it is that I make that appointment. Please make my car start
in the morning."
Morning dawned colder than ever. He kept asking God to
make the car start. Then a neighbor came to my door asking to borrow my car.
Since he wanted it before I needed it, I said, "Yes, if it will
start." He offered to go out to give it a try so that it could warm up. In
a minute, he was back saying that the engine wouldn't turn over. "No
miracle!"
Then my neighbor said that there was someone next door
who would jump it with cables. In a few minutes, he was back, the car had been
started, and the problem was solved. God didn't perform the miracle that was
expected, but God did answer the prayer, don't you think?
Dear Lord, thank You that You constantly surprise us with
the ways that You answer our prayers. Help us completely trust You when we
pray. It is a joy knowing that You always do answer, and that
You never let us down. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
