Psalm 34:7 (ESV)
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those
who fear him, and delivers them.
The Bible has many references to the role of angels in
our lives. Angels delivered the prophet Elisha and his servant from the king of
Syria. God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions when Daniel spent the
night in their den.
Many years ago, there was a boy living in a wooded area
of Albert County, New Brunswick, Canada, he found himself several miles from
home, late at night, on his bicycle, with no light, heading for home. As he
started over a steep hill, he heard a terrible scream. It brought him to a
halt, as the hair on his neck stood up! A cougar was heading in his direction!
As he stood there on the road with the big cat growling
and coming closer and closer, he thought, “If I go the other way, he'll sense
my fear and easily overtake me. If I go his way, I may run right into him. I have
a problem!”
He had known that God would send His angels to deliver him.
He bowed his head and prayed, asking God to deliver him from that cat.
Suddenly, as the cat was only a few feet in front of him, he bounded off the
road, and then he could hear him going through the woods. He pedaled his bike
as fast as his legs could go and got home. He thanked the Lord for delivering him!
He always believed God answered his prayer.
We live by faith, not by sight. I can think of other
times when there was no doubt in my mind that God had sent His angels to
protect me.
Dear Lord, we are so thankful that You have given us Your
Word, which tells us that You will never leave us or forsake us. We realize
that there are probably many times when we are unaware that we have been the
object of Your divine care by Your angelic messengers. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
