Are You a Team Player?

Do you like to play sports? Today we met at a local golf course for the annual KBC Golf Tournement to raise money to help our youth go to mission camp this summer. As you know, most sports have an official team uniform. For soccer players, it is a team shirt and pair of cleats. For baseball players, it is a team shirt and pair of baseball pants and a baseball hat. When you wear the team shirt, it means that you're a member of the team, that you've been chosen to play in the game. Only people who are on the team get to wear a team shirt. And you can't play in the game unless you're wearing your team shirt.

What is the official team uniform for Christians? There isn't one. God doesn't hand out team shirts or cleats to people when they give their lives to Him. We don't need any special clothes or equipment to do God's work. Our Bible story today is about a young man named Samuel. When Samuel was very young, God spoke to him and said, "I want you to do My work." And Samuel said, "Lord, I'm all yours. I want to be on your team. I'll do whatever you tell me to do." Now Samuel wasn't extra-big, or extra-strong, or rich, or powerful, or anything like that. He was just a kid. But God chose him to do His work. And God chooses each on of us to do His work, too. God wants all of us on His team!

Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."

- I Samuel 3:10

Dear Lord, help us to be a good team player. Help us to work together to serve you and to spread your message of love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
